In January 2018 a group of 20 individuals, youth and adults, from St. Christopher Parish in Caro travelled to Nicaragua to work with Amigos for Christ. This organizations works with rural communities to help them gain access to clean drinking water, modern bathrooms and showers, a stove to reduce smoke inhalation inside homes, and education. During their week-long mission trip, they helped build a school in a community called La Chuscada. Engaging in manual labor, and conversation, alongside local Nicaraguans, the group feels that they gained more from the trip than they gave the community. Caro Rotarian Karly Creguer and Cass City Rotarian Val Hartel were among those in the group. The Clubs and Club Members of both Cass City Rotary and Caro Rotary supported the mission group with cash donations and items to take for the locals (like the suitcases and children’s books written in Spanish ). They put to work the founding principle of Rotary: Service above Self.
